About

But in the end, stories are about one person saying to another: This is the way it feels to me. Can you understand what I'm saying? Does it feel this way to you?

                     -- Kazuo Ishiguro

Between the Lines is an international, annual literary journal exploring the ways in which writing can spark social justice and community change. Founded by inaugural Maryland Youth Poet Laureate Tara Prakash, the journal examines the role of writing in creating change. We receive submissions globally, including submissions from Japan, Colombia, and England. Published and nationally acclaimed high-school and college students review submissions, choosing those that resonate, spark further reflection, and leave space for the unsaid.

We hope our journal represents the power of writing and the arts. Click on the "Submit" page in the above menu to learn more!
